The referee did make some good decisions in regards to fouls. However he did make some mistakes when fouls were committed and carried on with play and told players to get up. In the 31st min the referee awarded a free kick to Blue when the foul committed was again reds and therefore reds should have received the free kicks. Also decision making was sometimes disappointing when awarding throw ins to the wrong team, this happened in the 15min.



Positioning

Comment...

The referee took up some good positions during the game especially in set pieces. The ball sometimes went near the referee but the referee reacted quickly to not obstruct play and allowed play to continue. The referee could have been closer to assistants in order to aid their decision making when it came to throw ins as they sometimes required his support. 

Man Management

EXCELLENT 

Comment...

The referee had very good strong hand gestures which show who was in authority. You would also often see the referee demonstrate why a free kick is awarded which is good for both players and supporters. He also tried to speak to players rather than give out cards which helped with the man-management of the game.

Card Issuing

GOOD

Comment...

The referee only used his cards when deemed necessary and this was only twice. The first one was issued very early on to Evra for a foul. The last yellow card was given late on in the game to Ferdinand for a careless challenge that did not get the ball. The card could have been used more for dissent from both sides when they kept challenging decisions that were clear.

Fitness

Comment...

The referee had very good fitness which allowed him to keep up with play during the duration of the game.

Comment...
Assistant 2 was very delayed in some of the simple decisions such as Throws in until the referee made the decision as to which they copied. This can show uncertainty between the match officials. Assistant 1 made all good decisions, however there were no major decisions to be made.
