THE REFEREE

Foul Detection

GOOD

Comment...

The Referee's foul detection was generally good.   The majority of the fouls awarded during the match were correctly identified and the referee played several good advantages during the course of the match.   Both Assistant Referee's also assisted well with the award of fouls and aided the accuracy of decisions in this respect.   There were a few instances were good fouls were denied, most notably in the 20th minute when the referee failed to penalise a foul on a Stoke City player during a Hull City attack.

Positioning

SATISFACTORY

Comment...
The Referee's positioning was generally of a satisfactory standard.   He allowed himself to get into several good positions to get the best viewing angle and identify challenges.  However, there were some instances were the referees line of running did impact the course of play.  Most notably, on the 17th referee the ball touched the referee before hitting him more fully a few seconds later.

Man Management

POOR

Comment...
The Referee's Man Management was generally poor.   There were numerous instances of players having high feet during the match.  Whilst, these were correctly penalised, the referee failed to give any formal rebukes to any players, culminating in more instances occurring.   Furthermore,  the referee failed to effectively manage the Hull City #27 who on several occasions challenged the authority of the Match Officials.   This included inappropriate challenging of both Assistants,  Assistant 2 in the first half and Assistant #1 in the second half.   This was in addition to a couple of challenges to his own authority,  the referee failed to even speak to the player about this at any point during the match.

The games one caution of Hull #20 was accurate and well identified.

The Referee's fitness was of a excellent standard.

THE ASSISTANT REFEREES

Assistant 1 - VERY GOOD [8.5]
Assistant 2 - VERY GOOD [8.5]

Comment...

Both Assistants had very good games.  Assistant 1 was accurate in his offside calls and assisted the referee with a couple of foul awards.   He  was correct the Stoke #15 to put the ball in the correct place for the corner.  Assistant 2 also made several strong offside calls, including correctly disallowing a Stoke City goal in the 68th Minute.  He also contributed with several foul challenges.
