THE REFEREE

Foul Detection

GOOD

Comment...
The Referee's foul detection was generally Good.   The majority of fouls that he awarded were  correctly identified and justified. The referee e played several superb advantages throughout the match and also used his whistle effectively to indicate the seriousness of the foul committed.  There were a couple of instances were there was a foul which the referee didn't award.  In addition, the Free Kick he awarded against Everton #16 for obstructing Arsenal's #11 was questionable.

Positioning

EXCELLENT

Comment...
The Referee's positioning was excellent throughout the match.  He adopted an effective dynamic route of running throughout the game which enabled him to move him into excellent position's to have the best possible viewpoint.   The Referee was always up with play,  whilst maintaining enough of a distance not to disrupt proceedings.  This positioning allowed him to correctly identify foul challenges and other things such as corners/and goal kicks throughout the match.

Man Management

EXCELLENT

Comment...
The Referee's Man-Management was of an excellent standard.   He regularly communicated with players to explain his decisions and also in some cases to warn them over their conduct.  He effectively used the  Everton captain to give a warning about future conduct after there had been a few fouls in quick succession on Arsenal players.   This seemed to enhance his match control,  diffusing any potential situations that could develop after these fouls.

Card Issuing

GOOD

Comment...
The Referee's Card Issuing was good.    All cautions that he issued were justified.   The Caution of the Everton goalkeeper #24 for delaying the restart of play came after he had given several warnings to the team for this.  This caution seemed to defer players from any further infringements in this regard.

The referee played a good advantage when Everton #17 fouled Arsenal #6.  The referee opted to issue no sanction when the ball was next out of play and Everton #17 was slightly fortunate in this respect.

Fitness

EXCELLENT

Comment...

The Referee's fitness was of an exceptional standard.

THE ASSISTANT REFEREES

Assistant 1 - GOOD [8.3]
Assistant 2 - VERY GOOD [8.9]

Comment...
Assistant #1 had a generally good game,  making several good offside calls in the first half.  However, he did fail to penalise Everton #17 for being offside in the second half. Assistant #2 had a very good game,  he too made good offside decisions and also assisted the referee on a couple of occasions, signalling for fouls in which he had the  best view.  Both assistants were accurate with their award of throw ins.

OVERALL

VERY GOOD

SCORE

8.7/10
